BEFORE UMD: Three-time football letterman (running back/defensive back) and three-year starter at New London-Spicer High School ... played under his father, head coach Daniel Esser ... All-Wright County Conference (2012 and 2013), All-Area (2012 and 2013) and All-State (2013) ... rolled 2,407 rushing yards, 256 points and 3,339 all-purpose yards with the Wildcats ... scored 39 touchdowns as a senior ... Minnesota State Class AAA runner-up (2013) and quarterfinalist (2012) ... Wildcat team captain and Most Valuable Player (2013) ... also lettered twice in basketball (guard) and six times in track (sprints/jumps) at New London-Spicer High School.PERSONAL: Is the son of Daniel and Margaret Essler.
