Marcus McLin, who joined the UMD football coaching staff in 2018 as the cornerbacks coach, began overseeing the entire defensive secondary last fall.
Three members of that unit -- senior free safety Bill Atkins (first team), sophomore strong safety Austin Kurylo (first team) and junior cornerback Barry Moreland (second team) -- earned All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference recognition in 2019.
A former two-time NCAA Division II All-American cornerback, McLin spent the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons as the defensive coordinator at Kettle Moraine High School after sharing the defensive coordinator duties at another Wisconsin prep program, Delavan-Darien High School (his alma mater) the previous year.
The Cleveland, Ohio, native lettered four seasons -- starting the final three of those -- at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He was a three-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honoree and as a senior in 2014 attained his second consecutive D3Football.com All-American (third team) citation. In addition patrolling the defensive secondary, McLin also returned punts and kicks for a Warhawk club that captured three NCAA III national titles during his time in Whitewater (2011, 2013 and 2014).
McLin earned a B.A. degree in communication (with emphasis on public relations) from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2016.
