Biography

AS A BULLDOG:  
2020: Season canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic.
2019: Played in all eleven games for the Bulldogs. Finished tenth on the team in total tackles with 26, while securing 20 solo tackles. Posted 8 TFL for a total of 44 yards. Notched four sacks for a total loss of 34 yards. Recovered one fumble as well blocked one kick on the year for UMD. 
2018: Became more of a factor on the Bulldogs' first line of defense ... played in nine games -- including four as a starter -- and came away with 12 tackles, 1.5 sacks and one quarterback hurry ...  sat out three early-season outings while tending to an upper body injury ... was a NSIC All-Academic Team honoree.
2017: Steadily gained steam -- and playing time -- as the year wore on ... made eight appearances as a backup at the defensive end position ... was in on 10 total tackles and also had one quarterback hurry.
2016: Was redshirted as a first-year freshman.
BEFORE UMD:  Three-year starter (linebacker and special teams) at Rosemount High School  ... certainly lived up to expectations after being named to the 2015 Star Tribune Pre-Season Dream Team ... wound up as the Irish leader in sacks while attaining a bevy of post-season honors -- Associated Press All-State (third team), Minneapolis Star Tribune All-Metro (second team) and KARE 11 TV All-Metro ... captained Rosemount High School as a senior ... paced the club in total tackles the previous year and was rewarded with a spot on the All-South Suburban Conference recognition ... played under head coach Jeff Erdmann ... was a four-time track letterwinner (high jump, triple jump, hurdles and discus) and competed two years in basketball (forward) for the Irish.
PERSONAL: Is the son of Shelly and Lee Monson, a former North Dakota State University linebacker ... is majoring in civil engineering at UMD.
COLLEGIATE HIGHS: Total Tackles - 4  vs. Texas A&M-Commerce (11/17/18) and at Minnesota Crookston (10/27/18). Sacks - 1.0 vs. Northern State (11/10/18).  Tackles For Loss - 1.0 vs. Northern State (11/10/18) and at Mary (11/11/17).
