AS A BULLDOG: 
2016: Continued to stabilize UMD's first line of defense ... was a All-NSIC North Division honorable mention pick .... came away with 16 total tackles while making eight starts ... tied for the team lead in fumble recoveries with three, sharing that honor with linebacker Zach Bassuener ... also registered the second blocked kick of his Bulldog career in the home opener with Winona State ...  bypassed just one of the team's 12 games (against Northern State on Oct. 15) while tending to an upper body injury.
2015:  Secured All-NSIC North Division first team acclaim in his first year of starting activity ... was shifted between the two end positions and racked up 42 total tackles to rank fourth on the club (and first among defensive linemen) ... paced the Bulldogs in both tackles for a loss (17.0), sacks (5.0) and quarterback hurries (six) ...  recorded at least one stop in all 12 outings, including a career-high seven at Northern State on Halloween day.
2014: Served as a spare on the Bulldogs' defensive interior ... participated in three games -- vs. Southwest Minnesota State, St. Cloud State (where he recorded his lone tackle of the fall) and Minnesota Crookston ...  had one of UMD's school-record nine blocked kicks in 2014 (a punt at Minnesota Crookston on Nov. 1 that was recovered by Zach Bassuener in the end zone for a touchdown) ... missed two outings with a shoulder injury.
2013: Was redshirted as a first-year freshman.
BEFORE UMD: Topped the South Suburban Conference in quarterback sacks during all three of his years a starter (2010-12) for head coach Brian Vossen at Lakeville North High School ... made his final Panther appearance in the 2012 Class AAAAAA Prep Bowl title game at Mall of America Field where Lakeville North fell to Eden Prairie High School … was a three-time All-South Suburban Conference selection … also helped the Panthers claim the SSC championship and a state tournament berth as a junior … was recognized as an all-state performer in each of his final two prep seasons … also participated in the Lakeville North High School marching band and marched in the Junior Orange Bowl, Citrus Bowl and Tostitos Fiesta Bowl parades.
PERSONAL: Is the son of Frank and JoAnn Finkel ... is majoring in criminology at UMD.
COLLEGIATE HIGHS: Total Tackles - 7 at Northern State (10/31/15). Sacks - 2.0 at Mary (10/17/15). Tackles For Loss - 3.5 at MSU-Moorhead (10/3/15).
