BEFORE UMD A 2015 graduate of Orono High School • started four years for coach Ellen Wiese and the Spartans • served as a captain during her senior and junior seasons • led her team in scoring as a senior, sophomore and freshman, scoring 1000 career points • earned All-Wright County Conference honors during her senior, junior and sophomore seasons • selected to 2015 All-Minnesota State Class AAA first team • 2015 MGBCA All Star Game selection and 2015 Athena Award winner • also participated in lacrosse, earning all-conference honors senior and junior seasons and varsity volleyball as an outside hitter senior, junior, and sophomore seasons.
PERSONAL Born Kiera Jean Nelson in Edina, Minnesota on Feb. 4, 1997 • daughter of June and Jeff Nelson • has one sister, Shauntel • participated in Orono H.S. leadership association, student senate, DECA, Special Olympics, and Miracle Buddies during her high school career • plans to major in graphic design/marketing at UMD.
