Jeff Fiebelkorn joined the University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's track and field program in 2019-20 as an assistant coach, specializing in the sprints, hurdles, and relays.
2021 saw tremendous success for the sprints, hurdles, and relays groups working with Fiebelkorn. Nineteen UMD top ten all-time marks were established by student-athletes under his guidance, with three school records and multiple top three finishes at the NSIC Outdoor Conference meet.
True freshmen Anna Muellner broke a 16-year old school record in the 400 meters with a time of 55.39” with a second place finish at the 2021 NSIC Championships. Muellner provisionally qualified for the NCAA DII National meet and finished the season ranked #14, and was the #1 true freshmen in all of Division II. Muellner added a second school record to her resume, leading off the 4x400 meter relay at the 2021 NSIC Outdoor Championship.
Senior Maddie Biebel concluded her Bulldog career by running the #2 all-time mark in the 400 meter hurdles at 1:01.3”. Her time was the 18th fastest in NCAA DII, was a national provisional mark, and finished as the runner up at the outdoor championship. Biebel also ran on the school record 4x400m relay. Fellow senior Lindsay Maruska leaped to second place and the school record in the triple jump at the outdoor conference championship with a jump of 12.13 meters (39’9.75”). This mark was 24th in the nation and provisionally qualified for the DII National meet. Maruska also finished #5 all time in the 100 meters and #4 in the 60 meters.
Junior Ben Palmquist led the men’s team with a runner-up finish in the 110 meter hurdles clocking a time of 14.61”. His time is the #3 best in school history. Palmquist followed up with a 4th place finish in the 400 meter hurdles finishing in 54.55” and is the #9 best all-time for UMD.
Sophomore Hannah Lamkin (14.76”), Biebel (14.87”), and senior Nicole Schneider (14.97”) ran the number #6, #8, and #9 all-time marks in school history in the 100 hurdles, which was the first time in UMD history that three women broke the 15” barrier in the same season. Schneider finished her career at #8 all-time best in the 400 meter hurdles, and #6 best in the 60 meter hurdles.
Prior to his arrival at UMD, Fiebelkorn worked in an assistant coaching capacity for two seasons at both St. Cloud Cathedral High School (2018-19) and Brainerd High School (2016-17).
A native of Baxter, Minn., Fiebelkorn lettered in track and field from 2011-15 at Concordia College (Moorhead, Minn.) and was part of a 4 x 200-meter relay unit that posted the fourth best time in school history and a 4 x 400-meter outfit that ranked 10th. He graduated from Concordia College in 2015 and owns a B.S. Degree in marketing and an A.A. Degree graphic design and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in coaching and athletic administration from Liberty University.
