Bob Jones

Bob Jones joins the University of Minnesota Duluth track programs for the 2017-18 season as its new assistant coach in charge of throws.

Jones comes to UMD with 14 years of coaching experience between the high school and collegiate track and field ranks. Has had a hand in helping Bethel (Minn.) University from 2005-2016, Centaurus High School in Lafayette, Colorado(2004) and Lyons (Colo.) High School in 2000-2001.

While at Bethel, Jones coached NCAA Division III national championship qualifiers in the hammer throw, discus and weight throw, along with two academic All-Americans, and six school record setters (men’s hammer, weight throw, discus, indoor shot, women’s hammer and weight throw).

Was a member of the University of Minnesota track and field team from 1982-83, throwing the discus. In high school Jones played football at the guard position from 1977-80. Ran track and field from 1978-81 and flaunts the school record in the discus throw. Was also the second leg of the 4x200 meter relay team that holds the school record.

Jones who is native of Minneapolis, graduated from the University of Colorado in 1987, where he obtained a BA degree in communications.
