Biography

BULLDOG CAREER:
2020-21 (Senior):
Kahl started all 16 of the Bulldog contests during the 2020-21 season averaging 28.7 minutes per night. Kahl averaged 5.8 points per game scoring the basketball and shot 30.8% from the field. She recorded 3.3 rebounds per game and showed her defensive prowess recording the second most steals on the team (21) and second most blocks on the team with (12). Will use the NCAA Eligibility waiver to return for a fifth season in 2021-22.  

2019-20 (Junior): Kahl stepped into a starting role, and was up for the task for the Bulldogs. She started 28 out of a possible 29 games and averaged 28.1 minutes a night for UMD. She finished the year scoring 7.5 points per game (up from 5.8 the previous year), as well as putting up 14 blocks with 34 steals. She dished 50 assists on the season and was able to shoot .430 from the floor while making 74 field goals on the year. She nabbed 2.7 rebounds per game. 

2018-19 (Sophomore): Named to the NSIC All-Academic Team and received the NSIC Academic Team of Excellence Award • collected 171 points, 39 rebounds, 39 assists and 35 steals during her sophomore campaign • played in all 29 games for a total of 543 minutes played, averaging 18.7 minutes per game • was 15-for-36 from the field and made 34 of 51 attempted shots from the free-throw line.
2017-18 (Freshman): Compiled 80 points, 38 rebounds, 16 assists and 16 steals as the Bulldogs' number two option off the bench • played 13.5 minutes per game and played in all but one game • posted a season high 10 points on a perfect 5-for-5 effort in the win over U-Mary • had the fourth highest free-throw percentage on the team with 71.4 of her attempts falling • played in half of the NSIC quarterfinal game versus Minnesota State and registered four points, a career high five rebounds, and a pair of blocks and steals.

BEFORE UMD:
A 2017 graduate of Stoughton High School • earned All-Badger Conference honors after sophomore and junior seasons • three-year starter for the Vikings • took home the conference championship as a junior and a senior • placed runner-ups in the Wisconsin Division 2 State tournament • led Stoughton in points, assists, and steals in 2015-16, on her way to attaining All-Area status • sidelined for her senior season due to an ACL injury • participated in tennis and track and field at Stoughton H.S., where she went to state tournament three times for tennis and once in track.

PERSONAL: Born Payton McLean Kahl in Stoughton, Wis. • is the daughter of Amy and Brian Kahl • has an older brother (Tanner)  • was in National Honors Society at Stoughton H.S. • is majoring in marketing at UMD.
