Biography

2022-23 (Junior): Hakamaki came off the bench to in all 36 games of the Bulldogs' national championship run. She averaged 9.4 points per game with 46% field goal percentage and a strong 89.7% free throw percentage. She also saw an improvement to her defensive production, posting 22 blocks and a team high 67 steals.

2021-22 (Sophomore): Hakamaki saw action in 17 games in her sophomore season. She scored a total of 27 points on the season while going a perfect 8-8 from the foul line. She also improved her three-point percentage as she shot 33.3% on the season.

2020-21 (Freshman):
Saw the floor in seven games in her freshman campaign for the Bulldogs. Scored 15 points in total averaging 2.1 points per game while shooting 38.5% from the field and went a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. Recorded one block and was credited with two steals. 

BEFORE UMD:
A 2020 graduate of Cromwell-Wright High School, Taya comes to UMD after being apart of a team that made three state appearances in the five years (four as a starter) she played. She is Cromwell-Wright's all-time leading scorer (2,203 pts), steals (569) and assists (587) holder. Taya was a two-time All-State honoree (18-19, 19-20), two-time Polar League MVP (18-19, 19-20), Class A Player of the Year (19-20), four-time Polar League All-Conference, two-time First Team Duluth News Tribune (18-19, 19-20) and Duluth News Tribune Player of the Year (19-20). Taya holds the Cromwell-Wright single season point (769) and steals (170) records. She was team captain twice in her high school career. Taya also played volleyball for Cardinals, and was a two year captain, attaining All-Conference four times.

PERSONAL:
Born Taya Joyce Hakamaki... daughter of Tim and Teresa Hakamaki... has two older siblings (Tyler & Teana)... participated in National Honors Society... majoring in Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences and Psychology at UMD.
