Biography

2021-2022: Centralized with the Canadian Olympic Team for the season and helped Canada to the 2022 Olympic Gold Medal in her first Olympics with Canada, posting one goal and four assists from the blueline ... became the seventh UMD player to win an Olympic Gold medal, and became the second current player in as many Olympic games to strike gold with college eligibility remaining ... will return to the Bulldogs for the 2022-23 season.

2020-2021: Turned in arguably one of the most impressive season by a blueliner in program history, en route to literally leading the Bulldogs back into their first NCAA Frozen Four in over a decade by scoring 6:39 into overtime of UMD's NCAA Quarterfinal game against Colgate in Erie, Penn. ... named both the team's Most Valuable Player, as well as the heralded Maroon and Gold award, which is voted on by the team...the team captain was named a 2020-21 CCM/AHCA Second Team All-American, as well as a USCHO First Team All-American...named to the 2021 NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team, and finished the season the seventh-highest scoring defenseman in the nation and second highest in the WCHA with 14 points on four goals and 10 assists...the offensive blueliner was named the WCHA's Defenseman of the Year, as well as an All-WCHA First Team selection, and also turned in a plus/minus rating of +19 over the season.. .also became a three-time WCHA Scholar Athlete, as well as a three-time WCHA All-Academic Team member in 2020-21...2020-21 Division I Krampada All-American Scholar list

2019-2020:  A conversion to the backline led to a breakout season from the junior blueline...landed All-WCHA First Team honors and was a four-time WCHA Player of the Week, all while leading all WCHA defenseman with 32 points in 36 games...ranked sixth in the NCAA among all defenseman in points, and also led all WCHA blueliners in goals (11),  power play goals (7) (where she was third in the nation), and game-winning goals (5)--which also led the NCAA...in a UMD historical context, notched the most points by a Bulldog defenseman since the 2010-11 season, and piled up the fifth most points by a blueliner in a single season...also scored the third most goals by a defenseman in a single season in program history...was named a 2019-20 WCHA Scholar Athlete for a second-consecutive season, as well as to the WCHA All-Academic Team...participated in the 2019 USA/Canada Series in mid-August, as well as one of 47 players invited by Hockey Canada to attend the BFL National Women's Team Fall Festival that took place Sept. 9-15 in Liverpool, Nova Scotia.

2018-2019:  Posted five goals and 12 assists for 17 points after playing in all 35 of UMD's game last season ... ran up a five-game scoring streak from Jan. 11-Jan. 25 with three goals and five assists for eight points over those five outings ... named both a 2018-19 WCHA Scholar Athlete, as well as a 2018-19 WCHA All-Academic Team honoree ... participated in the 2018 USA/Canada Series on August 16-18 in Calgary as a member of the Canadian Women's Development Team.

2017-2018:  Debuted a 11 goal, 12 assist rookie season for 23 points in 35 games, which ranked her second among all Bulldogs in scoring, as well as seventh among all WCHA freshmen ... owned a team-high seven power play goals, and notched five multiple point games, including a career-high two goals and an assist for three points against Minnesota on Dec. 8, 2017.

BEFORE UMD:  Owns an impressive and lengthy international resume, including a roster spot on the 2017 Canadian National Women’s Development Team Summer Showcase ... a veteran of Canada's U-18 team, which includes a two silver medals from the U-18 World Championships in 2017 and 2017 ... named the captain for Canada's U-18 squad in 2017, as well as one of the top-three players for Canada in 2017 ... selected to the IIHF All-Star Team in 2016 ... twice selected to Canada's U-18 Selection Camp (2016, 2015) ... team captain for Team Manitoba in 2016 after helping lead her squad to a silver medal at the 2015 Nationals ... skated for the Western Wildcats of the Manitoba AAA Female Midget Hockey League from 2013-2017 ... a two-time top scorer for the Wildcats in 2017 and 2016, as well as the team captain in 2017 ... named the league Most Valuable Player in both 2017 and 2016, as well as a league First Team All-Star in 2017 and 2016 ... was a Second Team All-Star in 2015 ... earned Honor Roll accolades grades 7-12.

PERSONAL:  Born Ashton Julia Bell on December 7, 1999 in Brandon, Manitoba ... daughter of Tony and Teresa Bell ... has one older brother (Tristan) and one younger brother (Samuel) ... graduated from Deloraine High School in 2017 ... is a biology major at UMD.
