Biography

2017-18:  Centralized with the U.S. National Team, member of the 2018 U.S. Olympic Team ... Backstopped the U.S. to arguably the greatest game in U.S. women's hockey history with 29 saves, and stopped Canada's last two shooters to help the U.S. win its first Olympic gold medal since 1998 in a 3-2 penalty shootout thriller at the Gangneung Centre in South Korea ... one of only two players to centralize in the midst of their college eligibility and return to Duluth as a Olympic gold medalists.

2016-17:  Enjoyed arguably one of the best goaltending performances in UMD history after registering 2250:38 minutes for an NCAA-best 98.6% of the Bulldogs goaltending workload ... the second most ever by a Bulldog netminder ... stopped the second-most saves in a single season with 1013 in 37 games ... ranks fourth all-time in a season for save percentage (.942), as well as fifth for wins with a record of 25-7-5  and third with six shutouts ... had six games with 40 or more saves ... was named the WCHA Final Face-Off Most Outstanding Player after shattering the tournament record with 112 saves ... also named to the WCHA Final Face-Off All-Tournament Team ... selected to the 2016-17 All-WCHA Third Team ... earned the WCHA's Defensive Player of the Month twice -- March 2017 and  November 2016 ... four times selected the WCHA's Defensive Player of the Week ... landed a spot on the 2016-17 WCHA All-Academic Team ... earned a gold medal with the U.S. National Team in the 2017 IIHF World Championship ... posted a shutout on April 1, 2017 against the Russian National Team in Plymouth, Mich. ... the youngest player on the U.S. squad at 19 year old, played all 60 minutes, making 14 saves in her red, white and blue debut in the 7-0 win.

2015-16:  Between the pipes for 19 games and 1019:08 minutes as a rookie ... posted a 5-12-0 record with two shutouts ... made 483 saves and owned a GAA of 3.18 ... named to the 2015-16 All-WCHA Rookie Team ... was selected to the U.S Women's National Team Goaltending Development Camp that ran May 12-15 in Blaine, Minn.

BEFORE UMD:
Played two seasons with the Huskies girls' team before joining the Andover High School boys' team with the goal of accelerating her college development as a senior ...  compiled a 2.84 GAA, .910 saves percentage, and snared 650 saves in net for the boys team in 25 games during the 2014-15 ... she led the Andover girls program to its first-ever Class 2A state tournament appearance as a junior, where she also made the All-Tournament Team and received All-Conference and All-State Honorable mention accolades ... as a sophomore, garnered Second-Team All-Metro status prior to Third-Team All-Metro in 2013-14 ... a three-time U.S. national camp attendee, she played on the U-18 USA series against Canada in 2013 ... was a member of the 2013-14 US U-18 National Team, and was the one of the only US goalies to lead the U-18 US National Team to a victory over Canada in the August Canada/US Series of that year ...  in the same year, she was also invited to USA's Top-6 Goaltending camp.

PERSONAL:  Born Madeline S. Rooney on July 1, 1997 in Duluth, Minn. ... is the daughter of Michael and Jayne Rooney of Andover, Minn. ... has one older brother (Brian) ... is a 2015 graduate of Andover High School ... is a marketing major at UMD.
