Abbey Strong

Abbey Strong was hired as UMD athletics' director of compliance in December 2011 and 25 months later was promoted to assistant athletic director for compliance and camps. Among her duties, Strong oversees all aspects of athletic compliance, including oversight over initial eligibility, financial aid, recruiting, transfers and continuing eligibility. She also serves on the UMD athletic department's senior staff and is the sport administrator for women's hockey and women's soccer.  In May 2016, Strong was appointed to a four-year term on the NCAA Division I Women's Ice Hockey Committee.
 
Before signing on with the Bulldogs, Strong worked for three years in a similar capacity (coordinator of compliance and student services) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, an NCAA Division I school, for three years.

A native of Houghton, Mich., Strong graduated from Michigan Tech University in December 2005 with a bachelor's degree in business and received her Master's degree in sports administration from Wayne State (Mich.) University two years later.  From 2000 to 2002, Strong attended and played hockey (defense) at the University of Findlay in Ohio before transferring to the University of North Dakota, where she also lettered a pair of seasons.

Strong currently resides in Duluth with her partner Chris and their three children, Cora (3) and twins Kasen and Aiden (1).
