Senior pitcher Leanne Hotop (Esko, MN) tied Minnesota-Duluth's all-time record for wins to highlight a doubleheader sweep of Bemidji State Tuesday at Junction Avenue Field.
UMD, 22-8 overall, needed just five innings in each game, winning 12-0 and 17-0. The Bulldogs move to 14-2 in league play and play at Minnesota-Crookston tomorrow afternoon in ther final regular season games.
Hotop allowed just three Bemidji State hits in game two, improving to 9-4 in 2003 and 50-22 in her career. She ties Kari Kallio who also had 50 wins from 1996-99.
Senior Michelle Simmonds (Duluth, MN) threw a one-hit shutout in game one, striking out seven. Simmonds improved her career numbers to 45-18 and lowered her 2003 ERA to an impressive 0.30.
The Bulldogs used the long ball and long rallies to defeat the Beavers. UMD belted six home runs and had 29 hits in the doubleheader. Carlie Peck (Superior, WI) and Shannon Haasser (Long Prairie, MN) had one in each game.
