The University of Minnesota Duluth football Bulldogs suffered two losses on Saturday, falling to the University of South Dakota 48-21 and seeing star running back
Dave Rufledt removed from the lineup yet again with an injury.
South Dakota running back
Stefan Logan led a Coyote attack that piled up nearly 500 yards in total offense by scampering for 219 yards, a total that included long runs of 58 and 56 yards. Logan's rushing outburst was the largest allowed by the UMD defense this season.
The highlights were few for the Bulldogs (4-6; 1-4 NCC), who spotted USD a 24-0 lead before clawing to within 10 points early in the third quarter. The rally, however, was short lived.
In the loss, Bulldog running back
Joe Russell, playing in relief of Rufledt, ran for 132 yards on 23 carries. UMD wide receiver
Greg Aker hauled in two more touchdowns to increase his team-leading total to six. Also of note, running back
Aaron Kelly rushed four times for 27 yards, giving UMD three running backs with more than 500 total rushing yards for the second straight season. A final highlight occured in the fourth quarter when UMD's punt-blocking specialist, Cody Ahmann, blocked his third punt of the season. Sam Brown returned the loose ball five yards for a Bulldog score.
UMD will now return home for its final game of the season, a 1 p.m. date with St. Cloud State University on Nov. 6.
