University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball sophomore forward Lindsey Dietz has been selected as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 1-8, the league office announced today.
Lindsey Dietz (So., F, Elk River, Minn.) averaged 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per games as the University of Minnesota Duluth took a pair of NSIC games last weekend. Dietz made her return to the Bulldog line-up Thursday after sitting out eight of the previous games. She came off the bench to score 24 points on 9-of-14 from the field while grabbing seven rebounds and making two assists in the 65-47 win over Southwest Minnesota State University. Saturday she poured in 28 points in 22 minutes adding eight rebounds. She was 8-of-11 from the floor and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line as UMD completed the two-game weekend conference sweep with a 71-49 victory over Wayne State College.
The award is Dietz's second of the season and the third for UMD in 2003-04. Dietz won Player of the Week honors Nov. 24 while senior Katie Pavlich garnered the honor Jan. 26.
The Bulldogs are 13-9 overall and 6-6 in NSIC play. UMD will return to action Thursday when they host Finlandia University in a non-conference affair. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Romano Gymnasium.
