This past spring, 186 student athletes eclipsed the 3.00 GPA barrier, including 19 who attained 4.00 marks. In all, UMD student-athletes maintained an average cumulative GPA of 2.91 during the 2004-05 school year. The women's basketball contingent posted the best overall GPA as a team with a 3.36 figure.

\"Academically and athletically, student-athletes have stood the test of time at UMD,\" says AASC director and UMD head men's basketball coach Gary Holquist. \"Our combined GPA as been consistently around the 2.90 mark the last 10 years or so and that shows these young men and women are not only champions on the field of play, but, most importantly, in the class room.\"
