DIETZ NAMED 2006 ESPN THE MAGAZINE ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Lindsey Dietz has done it again. The senior forward from Elk River, Minn. has been named the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American of the Year for the College Division for a second straight year. Dietz, a Mathematics and Psychology major, carries a 3.97 cumlative grade point average and was just recently named to the North Central Conference All-Academic Team for a second time in two seasons.

Dietz won the prestigious award, also awarded by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), for the first time last season. She is the only Bulldog athlete ever to have been selected for the honor.

\"It's a great honor to get,\" Dietz said Tuesday. \"No matter how my basketball career might have turned out, I've always worked hard in the classroom.\"

\"It's nice to be recognized for the effort you put into school. It's always good to show that athletes are working just as hard as other students would.\"

Besides getting it done in the classroom, Dietz led the NCC in regular season scoring for a second straight year, posting 23.1 PPG through 22 games. Dietz is the second all-time leading scorer in UMD history, male or female, after scoring 2,115 career points in four years.
