BANFORD ADDS ANDERSON TO COACHING STAFF

Katie Anderson has accepted a coaching position with the University of Minnesota Duluth softball team. She will fulfill the role of head coach Jen Banford’s former assistant, Angie Eliason.

A native of Salem, Wis., Anderson is a 2004 graduate of Bemidji State University, where she lettered three seasons at shortstop and third base for the Beavers while working to obtain a degree in physical education. She also played hockey for BSU as a goaltender and was a two-time Western Collegiate Hockey Association All-Academic team honoree. Prior to her collegiate career, Anderson competed in varsity softball, hockey and basketball at Westosha Central High School (Wis.).

Anderson’s coaching experience includes spending time as an assistant girls hockey coach at Duluth’s Denfeld High School in 2004-05. Last year, she served as a physical education teacher and head girls hockey coach at Thief River Falls Middle School (Minn). She is currently in her seventh season doubling as a goalie instructor and camp counselor for prospects between the ages of 14 and 18 at USA Hockey Select Camps.

While contributing to all facets related with the softball program, Anderson will begin pursuing a Master’s degree in Education at UMD. The Bulldogs finished the 2006 season -- Banford’s first at the helm -- with a 25-20 overall record and placed fifth in the North Central Conference standings at 3-9.
