Annette Wiles just added a little more spark to her future roster.
Courtney Doucette and Kaiya Sygulla have each signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Minnesota Duluth next fall and play basketball under Wiles for the 2009-10 season.
Doucette, a 5-foot-8-inch guard, is heading into her senior season at Colfax (Wis.) High School and will captain the Vikings this winter. One year ago, she averaged 14.4 points, 3.0 assists and 2.7 steals per game en route to receiving Dunn-St. Croix All-Conference first team recognition (for the second time in as many years) and WBCA Coaches Association All-State Division III honors. She has been a member of the Viking varsity the past four seasons and is an all-conference performer in both track and cross country.
“Courtney is a pure shooter and she can shoot from anywhere,” said Wiles, who is in her first season as the Bulldogs' head coach. “She also has a quick release, which will be a great weapon in our league, and will be a great addition to our basketball program."
Sygulla, a 5-foot-6-inch point guard from Lakeville (Minn.) North High School, is a two-time All-Lake Conference pick. One year ago, she averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 assists and 2.4 steals per game and currently holds Panther records for most assists in a season (157) and career (411).
“Kaiya brings a high basketball IQ to the program,” said Wiles. “Her intensity and work ethic are second to none and she knows how to win. We are extremely excited about adding a player like Kaiya to our program.”
