It's now official. The University of Minnesota Duluth will invade Adamson Stadium for an NCAA Division II playoff semifinal showdown with California University of Pennsylvania. The opening kickoff for the first-ever matchup between the two schools is set for 11 a.m. (CST) and will be televised nationally on ESPN Classic.
UMD, at 13-0 the only unbeaten NCAA II team in the country, punched its ticket to the semifinal round by derailing No. 1 Grand Valley State University 19-13 in double overtime this past Saturday afternoon in Allendale, Mich, while the Vulcans (12-1) advanced with a 27-24 victory at Bloomsburg University in the Super Regional One title game.
This year marks the first time the Super Regional Three champion Bulldogs have ever made it past the first round of the NCAA II playoffs in three tries. The Vulcans will be making their second straight semifinal appearance, having bowed out to Valdosta State University one year ago.
The other NCAA II semifinal game will pit No. 5 University of North Alabama (12-1) against No. 3 and host Northwest Missouri State University (12-1) on Saturday at 3 p.m. (CST).
