University of Minnesota Duluth freshman
Heather Stemper has been chosen the North Central Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for her spirited performance during the Bulldogs' final four games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Burnsville, Minn. native, who shares this week's award with St. Cloud State University's Kaity Strever, is the first Bulldog to be so honored this season.
In 12 innings of work, Stemper posted a pair of wins, struck out nine and allowed no earned runs and only nine hits. Her 2008 record now stands at 4-0 to go with a 1.31 earned run average. Stemper also has one save on the year and opponents are batting a mere .207 against her.
UMD, which has won seven straight games and sports a 9-3 overall record, will travel to Winona, Minn. to face Winona State University in a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m.
