Junior
Liz Palkie ran the fastest outdoor 800-meter time in University of Minnesota Duluth history Saturday night at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships in Walnut, Calif., and the result was a fourth place finish and All-American honors for the Carlton, Minn., native.
Palkie, who was making her fourth straight appearance in an NCAA II national track event, posted a time of 2:10.86 to narrowly eclipse the previous Bulldog outdoor record of 2:10.90 set by Lori Schmidt in 1990.
She secured the ninth, and final spot during Friday's preliminaries, clocking in at 2:11.38.
One year ago, Palkie placed second in that same event at the NCAA II indoors en route to securing All-American status and followed that up with a ninth place NCAA II outdoor effort two months later. She now holds both of UMD's indoor and outdoor 800-meter run marks.
UMD's other representative at the 2008 NCAA II outdoors, senior
Jared Clementson, finished 18th in the 800-meter preliminaries on Friday and did not qualify for Saturday finals.
