The University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's indoor track and field teams had strong showings at the Twin Ports Open Saturday on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Superior in Superior, Wis.
In all, 15 Bulldogs won their events, including senior Kate Fitzgerald, who won both the women's 60m and (7.82) and 200m (25.67). Sophomore Lillian Wanzek won the women's 60m hurdles in a time of 9.09, a PR and the 98th fastest time in NCAA Division II so far this year.
Junior Madi Wodele won the women's 400m in 1:02.29, while sophomore Avary Fitzpatrick won the women's 600m in a time of 1:41.12. The Bulldogs also got women's wins in the 800m with sophomore Sierra Ingle's time of 2:29.50 in the 800m, senior Madeline Verkerke 2:58.93 time in the 1000m and graduate Shaelyn Hostager's 3000m performance of 10:12.57.
In field events, the UMD women had winning jumps of 1.57m in the high jump from sophomore Sophie Mahnke, Wanzek in the long jump at 5.24m and freshman triple jumper Ilm'aime Ntambwe, who posted a jump of 10.70.
On the field side for the men, senior Will Heydt long jumped to a 6.73m first place effort, and Noah Rodenwald had a winning pole vault height of 4.32m.
Freshman Nolan Bien won the 60m hurdles in 8.53, while Austin Kehr won the 400m in 51.2, the lone first place finishers for the men on the track.
UMD will head to St. Paul, Minn. next Saturday to compete in the
Vanessa Seljeskog Classic at Macalster College inside the Leonard Center.
