After being relegated to spot duty as a rookie forward with the University of Minnesota Duluth in 2007-08, Mike Montgomery was willing to try anything to secure more permanent deployment. One of the best moves he made in that regard was just that -- a move to a new position. The 6-3, 210-pound Lino Lakes, Minn. product opened his sophomore season as a member of the Bulldog blueline corps and the relocation project has since proven to be a rousing success. Montgomery, who was bestowed with the Mike Sertich Award as UMD's most improved player in 2008-09 after racking up 10 points and finishing a plus-10 while skating in all 42 games, is serving as Bulldog alternate team captain this winter. He currently paces the No. 12 Bulldogs in plus-minus rating (plus-10) and has caught the eye of more than one National Hockey League scout with his stellar two-way play.
