Dylan Olsen has earned himself a spot on the Canada National Junior Team and when he steps on the ice at the upcoming 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship he'll be the first University of Minnesota Duluth puckster to ever do s for that particular club.
Olsen, a 6-2, 220-pound sophomore defenseman from Calgary, Alberta, was one of 22 players selected to compete for Canada at the IIHF event, which runs from Dec. 26-Jan. 5 in in Buffalo, N.Y. Canada's National Junior Team will play in three pre-tournament games in southern Ontario against Switzerland (Dec. 20 in Oshawa), Sweden (Dec. 21 in Toronto) and Finland (Dec. 23 in Kitchener) before opening up IIHF World Junior Championship play versus Russia on Dec. 26.
Olsen currently ranks second among all Bulldog blueliners with a career-high 13 points on one goal and 12 assists in 17 games and is a plus-nine on the year.
Canada has medaled at 12 straight IIHF World Junior Championships, including gold-medal performances in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, silver medals in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2010 and bronze medals in 2000 and 2001.
