FAULK BECOMES 46TH BULLDOG TO SKATE IN THE NHL

The University of Minnesota Duluth added another alumnus to the National Hockey League registry Friday night (Oct. 7) when former Bulldog defensemen Justin Faulk debuted for the Carolina Hurricanes in their 5-1 home defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Faulk, a second round pick in 2010, cracked the Hurricanes opening night lineup and instantly saw a regular shift, skating just under 20 minutes in his debut and racking up four penalty minutes.

Faulk signed with Carolina following his record-setting freshman season with the Bulldogs. The South St. Paul, Minn., native put up 33 points in 39 games last winter -- a record for UMD freshman defenseman -- en route to UMD's first national title in program history.

Faulk is the 46th former Bulldog to skate in a NHL game since the 1971-72 season.
