BULLDOGS ADD FIVE RECRUITS DURING EARLY SIGNING PERIOD

Five United States Hockey League standouts --Tony Cameranesi (Waterloo Black Hawks), Willie Corrin (Fargo Force), Cal Decowski (Des Moines Buccaneers), Andy Welinski (Green Bay Gamblers), and Austyn Young (Sioux Falls Stampede) -- have all signed NCAA  Letters of Intent to attend and play hockey for the defending NCAA champion University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs in 2012-13.

The quintet includes three forwards and two defensemen, all of whom are Minnesota natives.

Tony Cameranesi • F • 5-9 • 160 • 8/12/93 • Maple Grove, Minn. (Waterloo/USHL)
Is in his first season of USHL competition and currently has two goals and six assists for eight points with the Waterloo Black Hawks ... enjoyed a sterling three-year career at Wayzata High School ... skated for the U.S. at the recent World Junior A Challenge in Langley, British Columbia ... secured Associated Press All-State first team acclaim as a senior after racking up 63 points (17 goals and 46 assists) ... was selected in the fifth round (130th overall pick) by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2011 National Hockey League draft.

Willie Corrin • D • 6-2 • 189 • 8/1/91 • International Falls, Minn. (Fargo/USHL)
Has spent the past two seasons manning the point for the Fargo Force ... was credited with one goal and nine assists and finished at a +6 as a USHL rookie ... starred for three winters at International Falls High School (2007-10)  ... was a three-time Associated Press All-State honorable mention honoree and a member of the Duluth News-Tribune's All-Area second team in 2009-10 ... is the nephew of current University of Nebraska-Omaha head coach Dean Blais.

Cal Decowski • F • 5-10 • 180 • 2/4/92 • Andover, Minn. (Des Moines/USHL)
Joined the Des Moines Buccaneers at the end of his senior year at Andover High School and has strutted his stuff with that USHL franchise ever since ...  had 25 points (eight goals and 17 assists) in 60 regular season outings last winter ... was chosen to represent the Western Conference at the 2011 USHL All-Star Game ... landed All-Northwest Suburban Conference first team honors on two occasions  (2008-09 and 2009-10) and captained Andover High School during his farewell prep season in 2009-10) ... was a 2009-10 Mr. Hockey finalist along with current Bulldog rookie forwards Caleb Herbert and Adam Krause.

Andy Welinski • D • 6-0 • 190 • 4/27/93 • Duluth, Minn. (Green Bay/USHL)
Ranked second among Green Bay Gambler defensemen in scoring one year ago go with 14 points (six goals and eight assists)  in 51 regular season games .... added two more goals during the Gamblers' 11-game palyoff run and closed out the year at an overall +15... was a teammate of fellow 2012-13 UMD recruits Tony Cameranesi and Austyn Young at the 2011 World Junior A Challenge earlier this month ...  bypassed his senior season at Duluth East High School to sign on with the Gamblers ...  received Associated Press All-State honorable mention and Duluth News-Tribune All-Area first team status as a Greyhound junior ... his National Hockey League rights are held by the Anaheim Ducks (3rd round; 83rd selection overall in 2011).

Austyn Young • F • 5-10 • 185 • 10/16/93 • South St. Paul, Minn. (Sioux Falls/USHL)
Is embarking on Year Two with the USHL's Sioux Falls Stampede and has bagged three goals and three assists through seven games thus far ...  his rookie year scoring portfolio included 11 goals and 21 assists in 54 regular season outings and another three points in the USHL postseason ... tallied six times overall on the power play and picked up seven assists while the Stampede had the man advantage in 2010-11 ... was a +15 on the year ... collected a pair of points in five games for the U.S. at the 2011 World Junior A Challenge ... played one year (as a sophomore) at South St. Paul High School and topped the Packers in scoring that winter  ... also attained all conference honors before moving on to the USHL ...  is the son of John Young, an All-WCHA forward at Michigan Tech University during the early 1990s.
