Sophomore forward Katrina Newman was a big part of the University of Minnesota Duluth women's basketball team's success on the road last weekend, averaging 17.5 points and 10 rebounds per game in two conference wins for the Bulldogs.

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference recognized Newman's strong week as the Barnum, Minn. native became NSIC Player of the Week on Monday.

Newman tallied 21 points, 14 rebounds and six assists against Upper Iowa Friday, and followed that perfomance Saturday with 14 points, six boards and three steals to help top Winona State.

After eight games, Newman leads UMD in points per game (15.6) as well as rebounds per game (8.8), and is second in steals with nine.
