MANY SEASON BESTS FOR UMD TRACK AT MINNESOTA THIS WEEKEND

The University of Minnesota Duluth track teams had their final tune up of the indoor season before competing at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships next weekend in Bemidji, Minn. This past weekend both the women's and men's teams competed at the University of Minnesota, managing to earn many season bests and a few performance bests. 

Once again, the distance medley relay improved their national provisional qualifying time and earned a first place finish over the two U of M relay teams. This relay team includes senior Michelle SanCartier, junior Maggie Demulling, senior Carrie Wardell, and junior Morgan Place. Their time of 12:00.67 was improved after running it in 12:01.95 last week. Senior Whitney Hines also had a great meet by running a lifetime best in the 3,000 meters taking third overall in the competition (10:15.77). Also standing out this weekend was freshman Alyssa Salava, improving her time in the 1,000 meters also taking third (3:04.34).

In the field events, junior Megan Stroh took fourth in the weight throw, but earned a personal best on the season with a distance of 51'6.25". Senior Elizabeth Crane took fifth among competitors in the shot put with a solid throw of 42'6" and sophomore Becca Lee placed fifth over in the triple jump (34'7.75").

On the men's side, the Bulldog's also had season best efforts in preparation for the NSIC indoor championships next weekend. Coming away with some of these season bests were freshman Jacob Heifort in the 60 meter dash (11th, 7.19) and the 200 meter dash (16th, 23.60), Nick Pedersen in the 60 meter dash (18th, 7.34) and the triple jump (44'4.75"), Danny Badhwa in the 400 meter dash (17th, 52.06), Sam Saccoman in the mile (18th, 4:24.80) and Cole Toepfer also in the mile (20th, 4:25.50). Sophomore TJ Struss had solid race in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.30 (9th), Ben Niemann in the 200 meter dash (10th, 23.38), and Ryan Eason in the 3,000 meters (12th, 8:52.79). 

As mentioned before, the Bulldogs will be traveling to Bemidji State University to compete in the NSIC Indoor Championships next weekend, with the competition beginning on Friday afternoon.
