The University of Minnesota Duluth track and field came away with a lot of great performances on the weekend. The teams competed at three different indoor meets but earned three school records, and two provisional records.
The women competed at the University of Minnesota on Saturday (Feb. 18) where they competed against a large field of NCAA DIvision I, II and III teams. There were 12 seasonal bests and personal records. To start out, the distance medley relay team provisionally qualified for the the NCAA Division II Indoor meet. The team members consisted of freshman Amanda Boman (1200 meters), senior Maggie Demulling (400 meters), senior Lexi Williams (800 meters) and senior Morgan Place (1600 meters). The team earned a time of 12:05.86, which places them 15th overall on the national list. Adding to the excitement, freshman Erin Pangerl set a new school record and personal best in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.91.
The men also had an exciting day as some members competed Friday night at the University of MInnesota as well. Senior John Knebel set a new school record and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.15 seconds coming in second overall. Senior Kyle Larson continued the record breaking by running the 3,000-meter time of 8:33.46. His time was the fastest time ever for a UMD athlete indoors or outdoors. Also a highlight for the men was sophomore Cole Toepfer ran an all time best in the mile with a time of 4:21.94.
Next up for the Bulldogs is the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Meet, which will begin this Friday (Feb. 24) and Saturday (Feb. 25) hosted by Mankato State University.
