The women had a successful day as junior Kari Novotny provisionally qualified for the NCAA II Indoor Championships in the polevault with a jump of 11'6.25". She won the event and came just .25" away from setting a new school record that was set back in 2005. Other first place finishes include: freshman Erin Pangerl in the 60-meter dash (8.03), sophomore Kate hassing in the 800-meters (2:19.63), sophomoreJacqie Thaemert in the 1,000-meter run (3:06.31), senior Morgan Place in the mile (5:11.04), freshmanAmelia Maher in the high jump (5'1"), junior Sam Olson in the shot put (36'11"), and senior Megan Stroh in the weight throw (53'11.25").
The men also had a strong day in Moorhead, Minn. Some of the highlights include: freshman Ty Fischer in the long jump with a second place overall (21'02.75"), senior Kyle Larson in the mile with a third place finish (4:24.10, lifetime best), senior Ray Rolling in the 5,000-meters winning the event (16:17.26) with teammate freshman Eric Cyr finishing right behind him for second place (16:34.52). The men also capture the top four spots in the 3,000-meter run with sophomore Sam Saccomann in first (8:54.19), senior Nick Nygaard in second (8:56.16), junior Ryan Eason in third (8:56.97) and sophomore Aaron Handorff in fourth (9:07.62).
Up next for the Bulldogs is a few different meets next weekend (Feb. 10-11). Some of the women will be heading to Iowa State while a majority of the men and women will be heading to compete in the Lake Superior Challenge being hosted by St. Scholastica. Next weekend is also the NSIC multi-event championships will be hosted by Bemidji State University.
