The University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's indoor track teams competed Friday in the Snowshoe Open hosted by the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn., the last regular season meet before the Bulldogs compete next weekend in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Senior shot putter
Jackson Weston threw to the 23rd longest throw in all of NCAA DII with a 17.26m effort, which also placed him on top of the podium in the meet. Weston also threw17.49m in the men's weight throw, which doubled as the 81st best throw in the NCAA DII this season.
Sophomore 600m runner
Avary Fitzpatrick won the event with a PR time of 1:36.93, while junior Madi Wodel finished in second with a 1:39.04. On the men's side of the 600m, sophomore
Austin Kehr took first place with a run of 1:24.65.
Senior Madeline Verkerke placed second with a 2:14.29 in the 800m and junior
Brayden Brakke finished second in the 200m with a 22.33.
In all, 14 athletes posted PRs, while seven athletes earned season bests.
UMD will compete next Friday and Saturday in Mankato, Minn. at the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
