Bemidji State University scored a first-half goal and held off the University of Minnesota Duluth the rest of the way in a Friday afternoon Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference battle at Chet Anderson Stadium.

The Beavers' Tiffany VanHaaften netted the game's lone goal in the 17th minute, slipping a shot through the UMD defense off a throw-in to give Bemidji a 1-0 win. UMD falls to 12-4-0 on the season, and 11-3-0 in the NSIC while BSU improves to 12-5-0 (9-5-0 NSIC). The Beavers entered the NCAA II Central region rankings for the first time this season at the 10th place earlier this week.

Junior midfielder Jennifer Smith led the way for UMD with six shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Rosa made three saves on the afternoon as the Bulldogs held the ball in their offensive zone through most of the game. BSU's Sonja Barr made nine saves to preserve her shutout while UMD out-shot the Beavers 28-9 on the afternoon.

Bemidji State secured the sixth seed in the NSIC with a victory today. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs are tied for third in the NSIC with Upper Iowa and can not finish lower than fifth. Minnesota State University wrapped up the regular season crown with a victory over the Peacocks this afternoon. A top-four finish will have the Bulldogs hosting a first round match-up next Wednesday. The final standings will not be determined until UMD faces off with the University of Minnesota Crookston on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day. That match will kick off at 1:00 p.m.
