FORMER BULLDOG HUBICK SUCCUMBS TO CANCER AT AGE 62

Greg Hubick is pictured here in 1971 with one of his young fans, Danny Stauber, who is now the head men's hockey coach at the University of Wisconsin-Superior

Greg Hubick, who patrolled the University of Minnesota Duluth blue line back in the early 1970s, passed away from cancer last Wednesday (Dec. 4) at the age of 62.

A native of Strausburg, Saskatchewan, Hubick skated in 66 games during his two seasons at UMD (1970-72) and had 14 goals and 29 assists to show for it.  As a rookie, he paced all UMD defensemen in scoring with 22 points and then finished second in that department the next winter. Hubick left the Bulldogs program following his sophomore season and went on to play professionally for 10 years, including a pair of seasons in the National Hockey League (Toronto Maple Leafs in 1975-76 and the Vancouver Canucks in 1979-80). The Montreal Canadian draftee (4th round and 53rd overall pick in 1971) also did time with the Nova Scotia Voyaguers (American Hockey League), the Dallas Black Hawks (Central Hockey League) and the Wichita Wind (CHL).
A celebration of Greg's life will be held on Monday, December 9th at 11:00 a.m. from the Strasbourg Memorial Hall, Strasbourg SK. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/leaderpost/obituary.aspx?n=gregory-hubick&pid=168383317&fhid=6603#sthash.6UOH1qwn.dpuf
