The University of Minnesota Duluth saw a second-half comeback fall short as Augustana (S.D.) College netted a pair of late scores to slip past the Bulldogs 3-1 in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Sunday afternoon
UMD (5-7-0, 5-4-0 NSIC) finished its final two-game road trip of the season with a split, while Augustana (10-2-0, 7-1-0 NSIC) continues its hot streak in Northern Sun Intercollegiate play, having won nine of its last ten matches overall.
HIGHLIGHT• Senior forward
Maureen Stormont continued to inch ever closer to history with her tenth score of the season. With seven points this weekend, Stormont is now within nine of the all-time Bulldog career mark, and her 48 goals are just four behind the program record, each held by Jen Warrick Reierson ('01).
Augustana put pressure on the Bulldogs through much of the first half, getting on the board when senior forward Annie Thoreson netted her second of the season with an assist from junior midfielder Stephanie Stevens. The Vikings out-shot UMD 13-6 in the opening frame, but UMD came out of the locker room refreshed as Stormont was able to tie the game just six minutes into the second half, assisted by senior midfielder
Hannah Keil. The Bulldogs out-shot the Vikings 6-2 to start the period, but Augie was able to reassert itself in front when top-scorer Payton Pry netted her ninth of the season with an assist from Thoreson in the 63rd minute.
UMD battled back, but a late score by Stevens put the game on ice for Augie. UMD goalkeeper
Marissa Rosa finished with seven saves on the day, while Augustana netminder Ashley Limmer finished with three. Stormont led the Bulldogs with six shots on the afternoon. UMD was outshot 22-17.
