NO. 20 UMD COMES UP EMPTY IN WEEKEND OPENER WITH NO. 11 NORTH DAKOTA

North Dakota's Troy Stecher clears a rebound in front of Bulldog winger Joe Basaraba Friday night
Box Score
Zane Gothberg turned aside all 33 shots the University of Minnesota Duluth sent his way Friday in helping the University of North Dakota to a 3-0 victory and its second shut out in four lifetime visits to AMSOIL Arena.

Luke Johnson, who figured in on all three scores for the visitors, gave No. 11 North Dakota the only goal it would need when he wristed in a shot from the top of the left off circle on the game's first power play at 7:49 of the opening period.  Johnson then assisted on Rocco Grimaldi's second-period goal before striking again off a Bulldog turnover with 7:08 left in the third.

Senior goaltender Aaron Crandall (11-9-3), making his 14th straight start, finished with 18 saves for the No. 20 Bulldogs, who fell to 13-12-4 overall and 8-9-2-2 in the NCHC.

"You've got to give a lot of credit to Gothberg," said UMD senior right winger Joe Basaraba. "It's a tough and frustrating thing to run into a goalie like that."

The two teams will close out their two-game NCHC series Saturday night at AMSOIL Arena.
