Cole Toepfer made his last collegiate trip to the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse a memorable one Friday by placing first in the mile run at the Snowshoe Open. The University of Minnesota Duluth senior team captain did so in record-breaking time, clocking in at 4:10.47, which broke the previous school standard of 4:12.39 set by Nate Beerling some 10 years ago. It also ranked as the 10th best NCAA II time this season.
In that same race, senior
Jason Coffin (4:21.59) and sophomore
Joey Erickson (4:22.35) both turned in career bests while placing 8th and 11th, respectively, among 24 runners. Other lifetime bests were registered Friday by four other Bulldogs as well -- junior
Justin Adams (51.93) and senior
Danny Badhwa in the 400-meter dash (52.13) and freshman
Ted Heikkila (8:51.08) and junior
Aaron Handorff in the 3,000-meter run (8:55.00), an event in which UMD junior
Dan Nielsen took fifth (8:45.54). In the 800-meter run, junior
Scott Urban, like Toepfer, hit an NCAA II indoor provisional-qualifying mark at 1:55.47.
