TOP-RANKED MINNESOTA POWERS PAST BULLDOGS

Box Score The NCAA's highest scoring offense was just too much for the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team Friday night.

The top-ranked University of Minnesota netted six goals en route to a 6-0 win over the Bulldogs at RIdder Arena in Minneapolis, Minn., taking advantage of a thin UMD defensive core despite the late night return of Finnish Olympian blueliner Tea Villila from Sochi, Russia.

The Gophers scored two first period goals and three second period goals, including a power-play tally 34 seconds into the stanza.  Sophomore goaltender Karissa Grapp replaced Kayla Black 12:17 into the second period.  Black made 23 saves on 28 shots, Grapp 11 on 12 shots.  Despite being outshot 31-9 in the first two periods, UMD drew almost even in the third period, posting seven shots to the Gophers nine.

Both teams will put the 2013-14 regular season to rest Saturday afternoon at Ridder.  Both squads last regular season contest will get underway at 4:07 p.m.
