The University of Minnesota Duluth extended its winning streak to seven games with a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader sweep over Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa on Tuesday afternoon.

UMD (14-19, 10-13 NSIC) matched its regular season and conference win total from a year ago with a 4-0 shutout in game one, and the team's second extra-inning rally in the past week, taking game two from Upper Iowa (10-20, 3-13 NSIC) 5-4 in the 11th inning.

A two-out rally in the fourth inning got the scoring started for the Bulldogs, with a pair of walks and an infield single loading the bases for junior catcher Beau Goff, who continued his tear with a two-run single to right field. Sophomore third baseman Jimmy Heck followed it up with a double, putting UMD up 4-0 and knocked Peacock starter Jake Barron (Jr.) from the game after allowing four hits and four walks in his 3.2 innings pitched. Sophomore lefthander Bo Hellquist tossed five innings, allowing just a pair of hits and striking out three before handing over to the bullpen to complete the shutout.

Game two quickly became the Jimmy Heck show for UMD, as the sophomore third baseman went 4-for-4 with a pair of runs and the game-tying RBI on a seventh-inning two-out triple. Earlier in the inning, the Peacocks put a runner on third with one out in the top of the seventh inning when Ryan Citro hit his second double of the game, but the Bulldogs were able to throw him out at first to prevent UIU from extending its lead.

A pair of Bulldog errors led to three unearned runs for the Peacocks, as Upper Iowa plated two in both the third and fourth inning, knocking freshman righthander Grant Farley out of the game before UMD could make its comeback. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the 11th inning before defensive replacement Ryan Lakin lifted a single to centerfield, bringing home sophomore first baseman Alex Wojciechowski for the game-winner.

The Bulldogs will return to Bulldog Park this weekend for an NSIC series with Northern State University on Saturday and Sunday. Opening pitch is set for Noon both days.
