The University of Minnesota Duluth built up a 12-point lead in the first half and maintained it throughout the second, holding off Minot State University for a 72-60 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory on Friday night.
UMD (9-8, 7-6 NSIC) moved its record to 6-3 against the NSIC North Division, while keeping Minot State (8-11, 3-10 NSIC) in the cellar of the division.
HIGHLIGHTS• Senior guard 
Danielle Flood led the way with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, with junior forward 
Taylor Meyer not far behind with 18 points including a 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Senior guard 
Jessica Newman netted 12 points along with a team-high six rebounds, tying with sophomroe guard 
Allyson Harris, who also added seven points off the bench for the Bulldogs.
• Alex Haley netted 19 points to lead the way for the Beavers, while Christina Boag went 6-of-8 from the floor for 13 points also hauling in six rebounds.
UMD made good on 15 first-half turnovers, including six as the Bulldogs went up by 13 just 4:56 into the game. The Bulldogs would build on that lead over the next 10 minutes, eventually holding a game-high 19-point lead with 4:22 left in the half when senior point guard 
Alyssa Kerkhoff leaid in a basket on the fast break off another Minot turnover. UMD would score 24 points on the game off 23 turnovers by the Beavers. Minot State would trim the the lead to just seven before a minute clicked off in the second half, but the Bulldogs again pulled away to lead by as much as 14 in the second frame. The Beavers again set off on a comeback, trimming UMD's lead to four thanks to an 11-4 run late in the half. The Bulldogs would again pull away hitting a pair of threes as part of an 8-0 run before holding on for the final two minutes for the victory.

The Bulldogs will continue their road trip tomorrow night when they travel to the University of Mary for another NSIC North Division match-up against the Marauders. Opening tip is set for 4:00 p.m.
