SATURDAY WILL BE HOMECOMING AT MALOSKY STADIUM FOR UNDEFEATED 1980 BULLDOGS

During its 82-year football history, the University of Minnesota Duluth has finished a regular season unbeaten and untied on only five occasions. This Saturday afternoon, the group that accomplished that feat first -- the 1980 Bulldogs -- will be UMD's honored guests at James S. Malosky Stadium during its annual Homecoming game with St. Cloud State University.

That team, which will will be recognized between the first and second quarters Saturday, generated a perfect 10-0-0 record 35 years ago. Along the way, the Bulldogs captured their second straight Northern Intercollegiate Conference championship, and, with the exception of a 24-21 win over the University of Minnesota Morris, defeated each of their opponents by 17 points or more. UMD was captained by senior Amory Bodin, who in 2013 was inducted into the UMD Athletic Hall of Fame, while his backfield mate, junior Tom Stoll, joined Bodin on the All-NIC team and will join him in the UMD Athletic Hall of Fame this January.

UMD and Missouri S&T were the only two NCAA II schools to go unbeaten and untied in 1980 and neither made the eight-team NCAA II playoffs.
