Jordan Melby recorded her second shutout of 2015 and first-year midfielder
Natalie St. Martin scored her second goal as the University of Minnesota Duluth narrowly edged Wayne State (Neb.) College 1-0 in the Bulldogs' homecoming to Malosky Stadium on Friday night in Duluth.
UMD (4-6-1, 3-4-1 NSIC) picked up its third victory in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, netting a first-half goal and keeping the pressure on against Wayne State (1-6-3, 1-5-1 NSIC). The Bulldogs would finish with 14 shots in the game, including 10 on-net against junior goalkeeper Kyle Comba, while the Wildcats had eight, and six on-goal all stopped by Melby. St. Martin netted the game-winner just 25:17 into the game with an assist by first-year defender
Laura Edgren. Edgren earned her first career point, pushing a through-ball up to St. Martin about 20 yards out that she crossed the box with for a shot just out of the reach of Comba. UMD continued the pressure in the second half, collecting six corner kicks as well as six shots on goal after the break but weren't able to solve Comba. Melby needed four saves in the first half and just a pair in the second.
