BULLDOGS OFFICIALLY OPEN SEASON WITH TOUGH TEST AGAINST NO. 8 MICHIGAN TECH

After closing out the preseason with a home victory over Bethel University last Saturday, the University of MInnesota Duluth will officially begin its 2015-16 campaign this weekend when the team travels to preseason No. 8 Michigan Technlogical University for a non-conference bout against the Huskies.

UMD, which finished last season at 12-15 and 10-12 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, has showcased a completely new style and cast under first-year head coach Mandy Pearson. The new-look Bulldogs looked impressive last time out with an 87-55 victory but will face a much tougher test this weekend.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES | 2014-15: 28-3, 20-2 GLIAC
15171No. 8 Michigan Tech was voted the team to beat in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, returning four starters from a season ago including All-GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year, senior Danielle Blake ... the Huskies won the GLIAC regular season and tournament titles and hosted the NCAA II Midwest Regional Tournament a season ago ... Blake averaged 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 2014-15 ... Tech also returns two junior guards that averaged double digits scoring last season: Kelli Guy (11.0 PPG) and Morgan Anderson (10.4) ... head coach Kim Cameron is in her sixth season at the helm of the Huskies ... Tech narrowly edged UMD last season at Romano Gym, 59-58, but the Bulldogs still own a 30-19 all-time record against the Huskies.

UMD split a pair of exhibition games during the preseason, knocking off Bethel University 87-55 last Saturday afternoon at Romano Gym ... junior center Allyson Harris dropped a career high 29 points and 14 rebounds against Bethel on Saturday afternoon, one of four Bulldogs to reach double digits ...  first-year guard Samantha Kozlowski also put up a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards, adding a pair of blocks and three assists in her home debut for UMD ... for a complete season preview for 2015-16, click here, or hear from Coach Pearson by clicking here.
