TIGER-TAMING BULLDOGS COMPLETE WEEKEND SWEEP WITH SECOND STRAIGHT SHUTOUT WIN

Austin Farley in all likelihood paid his final collegiate visit ever to the Broadmoor World Arena Saturday night and the University of Minnesota Duluth senior left winger probably won't be missed.

Farley struck for two goals and chipped in a pair assists to help propel the No. 17 Bulldogs to a 6-0 triumph over Colorado College and a sweep of the two-game National Collegiate Hockey Conference series.  Sophomore goaltender Kasimir Kaskisuo held the Tigers scoreless for the second straight night, turning aside 26 shots en route to registering his fourth career shutout (including three this season). He's now also gone 170:20 without allowing a goal -- a run that eclipsed the previous school record of 166:44 set by Kenny Reiter between Nov. 4-11, 2011 -- and became the first netminder since UMD joined the NCAA Division ranks in 1961-62 to blank the same opponent in a weekend series.

Farley, who scored twice and helped set up another goal in UMD's 5-0 throttling of Colorado College Friday, gave UMD the only goal it would need in the rematch when he tallied with 1:12 to go in the opening period.  Just 16 seconds later, junior center Dominic Toninato put UMD up 2-0 and the Bulldogs would go on to add two goals in the second period (by senior right winger Austyn Young and senior center Tony Cameranesi) and two more in the third (Farley's team-leading eighth of the season and sophomore right winger Karson Kuhlman). Farley's four-point night was a career high and vaulted him into the top spot on UMD's scoring charts (he and Cameranesi have generated 13 points).

UMD (5-5-3 overall and 2-3-1-1 in the NCHC), which outshot the Tigers 31-26, has now posted six lifetime NCHC series sweeps and five of those have come on the road. The Bulldogs are off next weekend and will return to ice on Dec. 4-5 for a pair of home NCHC clashes against Western Michigan University.
