BRYKALIUK AND THE BULLDOGS BUCK OHIO STATE 4-2 IN COLUMBUS

Box Score Ashleigh Brykaliuk may have quietly entered Columbus on a four-game, five-point scoring streak, but after figuring in all four of the Bulldogs goals against Ohio State Friday night, it's safe to say the Buckeyes heard her loud and clear.

With two goals and two assists, the junior forward heavily influenced the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team's 4-2 win over OSU at the OSU Ice Rink.  The Bulldogs win puts them in a tie for fifth place with St. Cloud State University, and with the Huskies idle in Western Collegiate Hockey Assocation play until next month, sets UMD up to take over full possession of that spot in the standings with a win against the Buckeyes tomorrow afternoon.

OSU struck first, a mere 2:58 into the opening period before Brykaliuk drew UMD even at the 8:41 mark, with junior forward Lara Stalder nabbing the first of her three assists on the evening.  The Buckeyes retook the lead late in the first period on a power play goal by Lauren Spring with 1:05 remaining until the first intermission.

The lone goal of the second period came from sophomore blueliner Catherine Daoust at 2:36 (Demi Crossman, Brykaliuk), and it evened the score at 2-2.  It was the fourth goal of the season for Daoust, who currently leads all UMD defenseman in scoring with seven points (4g, 3a).

The Bulldogs netted the go-ahead goal at the 7:58 mark of the period on junior Sidney Morin's first goal -- a game-winning score at that -- of the season.  After assisting Morin's tally, Brykaliuk and Stalder were at it again with 25 seconds remaining in the game.  Brykaliuk's empty-netter was assisted by Stalder and iced the game -- and the highly valuable -- three WCHA points for the Bulldogs.

Freshman goaltender Maddie Rooney made 23 saves in the game for UMD, who was outshot 25-23 and went 0-of-4 on the power play.

The Bulldogs and Buckeyes will put the wraps on 2015 tomorrow afternoon, with the rematch slated to start at 4:07 p.m.

BULLDOG NOTES:  Ashleigh Brykaliuk has now compiled nine points on five goals and four assists in five straight games ... Michela Cava has now recorded a point in three consecutive games, posting two goals and two assists over that span.
