Kevin Hoy, graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth and former Bulldog infielder and 1984 baseball team captain, will be inducted in the Minnesota Class-A Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame at a ceremony later this month.
Hoy is set to be honored for his contribution to the Minnetonka Millers as a player and manager, where has helped lead the Millers to state-record 11 Class-A titles. He played for the team for 11 seasons before becoming a full-time manager and still holds the team record for hits in a game with 6. He also served as the head baseball coach at Southwest Christian High School in Chaska, Minnesota. "Everything Kevin does for the Millers is first-class," long-time Millers shortstop Joe Shallenberger said in a statement released to UMD. "He has the respect of every player on the team." Steve Schmitz, a Miller since 2002, added "I started out playing for the Hopkins Berries, and I basically came over to Minnetonka because of Kevin. When I played for Hopkins, we were always chasing Minnetonka. It is great to be with a team that has had so much success. The expectation here is winning."
During his UMD career, Hoy was twice-named to the All-Northern Sun Conference team as an infielder, in 1982 and 1984. The induction ceremony will be held at Red Haddox Field in Bloomington, Minnesota on Aug. 16. For more about the Minnetonka Millers, check out their home page
