This year marks the fifth anniversary of the University of Minnesota Duluth's conquest of its second NCAA Division II championship and this Saturday night, members of that history-making 2010 club will be on hand at James S. Malosky Stadium as honored guests of the Bulldogs during their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference clash with undefeated Upper Iowa University.
Just 24 months after it walked out of Braly Stadium, with the school's first-ever national title trophy in tow, UMD returned to that same facility in Florence, Ala., and produced the same result by downing Delta State University 20-17 on David Nadeau's 32-yard field goal as time expires. In the process, the Bulldogs became the first NCAA II program to close out a year 15-0 on two occasions.
The 2010 Bulldogs, whose coaching staff included current head coach
Curt Wiese (then the offensive coordinator) as well as assistant coaches
Peter Lue and
Mike McHugh and were captained by
Kiel Fechtelkotter (now a UMD assistant strength and conditioning coach), will be recognized between the first and second quarters Saturday night.
