UMD PULLS AWAY LATE TO WIN THIRD STRAIGHT AT ROMANO GYM

The University of Minnesota Duluth continues to take steps towards reclaiming its home-court advantage at Romano Gym as the Bulldogs won their third straight at home and started 2016 off with a 74-64 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory against Concordia University, St. Paul on Saturday afternoon.

UMD (3-7, 3-4 NSIC) stepped back within a game of .500 in conference play, once again using a full-team effort to pick up the victory as five players reached 10+ points scoring with a sixth, senior captain Taylor Dillinger, adding nine. The Bulldogs played a steady first half against Concordia (5-7, 1-5 NSIC), scoring 17 points in each of the first two quarters to take a 34-31 lead to the break. UMD built on that early in the second half, opening it up to 10 points at 43-33 when sophomore forward Anna Monke lifted a jumper for two of her team-high 14 points on the night, matching her career high in scoring as well. An 0-for-7 stretch down the final 5:49 of the third quarter by the Golden Bears helped UMD push its lead to 13 points and eventually 17 before CU stormed back.

Golden Bears freshman guard Anna Schmitt netted a game-high 22 points and helped lead Concordia back into the game as they cut the lead to just four with just about three minutes remaining. From there, the Bulldogs got a paid of clutch scores from sophomore forward Allison Olley, who also reached double figures with 10 points on the night, to lock up the win. Junior center Allyson Harris and junior forward Kenzie Kane each scored 12 points on the night, with Harris and Olley each grabbing six rebounds. Freshman forward Emma Boehm grabbed a team-high seven, all on the defensive end, while freshman guard Sammy Kozlowski notched 10 points.

UMD will be back at Romano Gym tomorrow afternoon as well as on the silver screen as the Bulldogs' game with Minnesota State University Mankato is set to be broadcast on My9 Sports Network locally. Opening tip is set for 1:00 p.m.
