BULLDOGS FALL JUST SHORT AGAINST MSU DESPITE BOEHM'S CAREER NIGHT

Freshman forward Emma Boehm led the Bulldogs with 19 points off the bench, but the University of Minnesota Duluth could not maintain its home winning streak against Minnesota State University Mankato on Sunday afternoon, falling 71-67 against the Mavericks at Romano Gym. UMD (3-8, 3-5 NSIC) had its chances including a three-point attempt by Boehm in the final minute, but MSU (4-7, 3-4 NSIC) shot nearly 46 percent in the second half to hold the Bulldogs at bay.

Boehm finished 8-of-12 off the bench, hitting a pair of big three-pointers for UMD after a slow start offensively for the team, which shot 11-of-34 in the first quarter (32.3 percent). Junior center Allyson Harris added 12 points in a start to go with a team-high seven rebounds. Nine players had at least one basket for UMD. The Mavericks were led by 17 points off the bench from freshman forward Taylor Paulsrud.

The two teams had just 11 points combined at the first media timeout past the five-minute mark of the opening quarter, but then both teams took off and Minnesota State would lead 15-10 after the first. Boehm and the Bulldogs would come back in the second quarter, taking a 25-23 lead before a three-point play in the closing seconds gave MSU a 26-25 lead heading to the locker room. UMD would take a four-point lead as late as 50-46 and hold MSU at bay for much of the third quarter but the fourth belonged to the Mavericks, who swung that lead around to five points in their favor with 1:27 remaining. A pair of lay-ups by Harris pulled the Bulldogs within one, but Mankato hit enough free throws down the stretch to hold off UMD.

The Bulldogs will set on the road next time out as they travel to Bemidji State University next Saturday afternoon. UMD will try to make it a season sweep against the Beavers with opening tip set for 2:00 p.m., preceding the men's conest in Bemidji.
