The University of Minnesota Duluth got a pair of 20-point games out of its juniors and rolled to a 71-55 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division match-up at Romano Gym on Friday evening.
UMD (5-11, 5-8 NSIC) saw junior forward
Kenzie Kane net a career-high 28 points on 7-of-11 shooting and 9-of-9 from the free throw line, while junior center
Allyson Harris scored 20 points on 9-of-12 from the floor while grabbing a tema-high six rebounds. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead over Minot State (8-11, 5-8 NSIC), leading by eight at 15-7 just over six minutes into the contest. The Beavers scratched back into the game with an eight-point run of their own, but UMD closed the first quarter with a two-point lead thanks to a jumper by freshman guard
Sammy Kozlowski.
The second quarter saw the two teams trade leads, and Minot State actually took a one-point lead to the locker room at 37-36, edging the Bulldogs 22-19 in the period. A three-pointer by Kane put UMD back ahead early in the third, but senior forward Savanna Kingsbury was quick to answer for the Beavers, finishing with a team-high 15 points on the night. Minot took an identical one-point lead headed to the fourth quarter, when the Bulldogs did the most damage of the night. UMD scored nine straight points and 17-of-19 to take a resounding lead on Minot, outscoring the Beavers 21-4 in the final frame. The Bulldogs finished the night shooting 55.3 percent including 5-of-12 from three-point range and 14-of-15 from the charity stripe. Minot State, meanwhile, shot just 35.3 percent on the night.
UMD will continue a four-game homestand on Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs welcome the University of Mary to Romano Gym for another NSIC match-up. Opening tip is set for 4:00 p.m.
